Fans may be eager to see Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, but the People's Champion isn't promising to be at WrestleMania 40.

Last year, reports spread that WWE was pursuing Johnson for a match at WrestleMania 39 against his cousin Roman Reigns.

The long-awaited match did not happen, as in January, Johnson informed WWE that he didn't have sufficient time to prepare for a match.

Instead, Reigns faced Cody Rhodes and blocked the American Nightmare from finishing 'the story' in the main event of Night Two.

When Johnson explained that he didn't feel ready for WrestleMania 39, fans immediately speculated that they'll see him compete at next year's event.

Some have even speculated that the decision for Rhodes to lose to Reigns is because WWE wants the Reigns-Rock match for the title in 2024.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that while Rock has left an appearance/match possible, nothing is close to guaranteed.

“Reigns had pretty much gone through everyone at the top tier on the roster, and with the exception of GUNTHER or, of course, The Rock. Dwayne Johnson, when he turned down this year due to schedule, did leave a crack in the door open about possibly doing Philadelphia at WrestleMania 40 next year, but that was far from a commitment and certainly nothing anyone should count on happening. There didn’t appear to be another new challenger on the horizon.”

No matches have been confirmed for WrestleMania 40 (promoted as WrestleMania XL) but a few details are known.

The show will take place at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the first 'Mania in the state since WrestleMania 15.

WrestleMania 40 will take place on April 6, and April 7, marking WWE's fifth two-night WrestleMania.

Triple H will reportedly be stacking the card to make the show as epic as possible to celebrate the 40-year milestone.

We don't know who will be on the card, but WWE reportedly wants recent NXT signing Dragon Lee to be on the main roster by WrestleMania 40.
