Gable Steveson returned to amateur wrestling competition earlier this week for the U.S. Men’s Freestyle Open in Las Vegas, Nevada. The WWE signee earned Outstanding Wrestler and advanced to the Final X in Newark, NJ, which takes place this May.

Steveson won gold at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo and is arguably the biggest name in freestyle wrestling today after attending the University of Minnesota. In 2021, he signed with WWE, although he has yet to make his in-ring debut.

Just a few weeks ago, Steveson announced his participation in the U.S. Open, but that didn’t stop him from outsourcing his opponents 44-1 to earn four separate. In the process, he got a win over highly-touted Mason Parris in the semi-finals.

It’s unclear who he will square off with at the Final X next month in Newark. He’s rumored to make a run at the 2024 Olympics in Paris

Triple H has confirmed in previous interviews that he wanted to work with Steveson at WrestleMania 38 and even pitched the idea to Vince McMahon. However, a health scare that forced him into retirement from wrestling nixed that.

WWE’s plans for him were delayed as Gable underwent a heart procedure of his own, which delayed his ongoing training at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
