A former WWE Superstar could be spotted behind the scenes of this week's Backlash Premium Live Event working as a producer.

Backlash 2023 took place last night from the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The event marked WWE's first Premium Live Event in the territory in 18 years, with the previous being New Year's Revolution in January 2005. The show saw Bad Bunny defeat Damian Priest in a San Juan Street Fight, while Zelina Vega (who is of Puerto Rican heritage) came up short against SmackDown Women's Champion Rhea Ripley. In the main event, Cody Rhodes defeated Brock Lesnar in a bloody war between the two.

PW Insider reports that Brian Kendrick was backstage at Backlash, working as a producer for the show. Kendrick worked with Jamie Noble to produce the San Juan Street Fight. Kendrick's work at the show comes months after he was backstage at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames in November 2022. At that time, he was requested by Ronda Rousey to produce her match with Shotzi.

Returning to WWE in 2016, Kendrick was part of the 205 Live roster but retired from in-ring action in October 2020. Shortly after, the former Cruiserweight Champion transitioned into a backstage producer role but appeared sporadically on NXT programming in 2021. After requesting his release in January 2022, Kendrick was set to make his debut in AEW, before his match was nixed due to controversial comments made in his past. Kendrick has since apologized for his comments and has worked to improve his mindset.

PW Insider adds that CJ Perry, fka Lana, was also in Puerto Rico but it is unknown if she attended Backlash 2023.
