Mustafa Ali hopes to be the one to dethrone the seemingly unstoppable GUNTHER at WWE's upcoming Night of Champions Premium Live Event.

During this week's Raw, a battle-royal took place to decide the next challenger for the reigning Intercontinental Champion. The match featured several recent call-ups from NXT, including JD McDonagh, Xyon Quinn, Von Wagner, and Apollo Crews. The closing moments of the match saw Ali eliminate Bronson Reed and former champion Ricochet to earn a title match at WWE Night of Champions.

Following his victory, Ali was confronted backstage by GUNTHER and Imperium. The Austrian said he feels regret for Ali, who is going to travel to Saudi Arabia only to suffer "the biggest loss" of his career, as well as the beating that goes along with it. Not to be outdone, Ali said he also feels bad for GUNTHER, who Ali believes will be humiliated at Night of Champions later this month.

Mustafa Ali will certainly have a tall order ahead of him as he tries to dethrone one of the most dominant Intercontinental Champions in history. Since capturing the title last June, GUNTHER has dispatched of Ricochet, Braun Strowman, Shinsuke Nakamura, Sheamus, and others to hold onto the gold. GUNTHER recently broke the record and his reign as WWE Intercontinental Champion is now the longest of the 21st Century. Should the Imperium leader make it to Friday, September 8, 2023, he will have surpassed the Honky Tonk Man's record 454-day reign as champion.

Weird choice. I thought they dropped the ball on Mustafa after that failed Retribution/Hacker angle.
