Cody Rhodes is willing and ready to 'do the work' to be the top babyface in WWE.

WWE has often struggled with the position of 'top babyface,' with several attempts at getting someone over as a good guy crashing and burning. Roman Reigns is perhaps the most notable example of this, and it wasn't until his transformation into the Tribal Chief that a large proportion of fans got on board. John Cena often received mixed-to-hostile reactions from crowds, and it was only thanks to feuds with the likes of Kevin Owens and AJ Styles, mixed with John's longevity, that audiences warmed to him in droves. Even 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, considered to be one of the top face champions ever, was hardly the clear-cut good guy WWE would prefer on their modern-day product.

With Reigns a heel and Cena a part-timer, the responsibility of being WWE's top babyface now rests on the shoulders of Cody Rhodes. The American Nightmare has proven to be a hit with audiences since his April 2022 return, especially compared to the negative responses he received by the AEW faithful.

Last night, Rhodes competed at the WWE live event in Fayetteville (which Reigns was mistakenly advertised for.) On Twitter, a fan expressed their gratitude for Rhodes who stayed for at least 25 minutes after the show to meet fans and sign autographs. In response, Rhodes expressed his own gratitude to WWE's production and security teams, who allowed him to end the show how he wanted.

Rhodes will be traveling to Saudi Arabia in the coming days to compete at WWE Night of Champions against Brock Lesnar. Rhodes got a victory over Lesnar at the recent WWE Backlash Premium Live Event in Puerto Rico.
