Seth Rollins expected involvement with WWE NXT is part of bigger plans for the gold brand, it has been claimed.

During this week's NXT, Bron Breakker issued a challenge to Seth Rollins for a World Heavyweight Championship match. In his promo, Breakker noted that Rollins has positioned himself as a fighting champion, and acknowledged that Rollins was the inaugural NXT Champion.

While Rollins hasn't officially accepted the challenge just yet, he is expected to defend his title in NXT soon enough. This will make the World Heavyweight Champion the latest main roster Superstar to compete on Tuesday Nights. Other current examples include Mustafa Ali and Baron Corbin, with plans for the pair being in place for some time. This week's NXT also saw Dana Brooke compete in the women's battle royal which was won by Thea Hail.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained that the decision for main roster talent to go to NXT is a Nick Khan move. Khan's reasoning is that the influence of main roster talent will boost ratings, and therefore lead to a higher asking price when it comes to media rights negotiations. NXT currently airs on the USA Network and the rights for the gold brand will expire in late 2024. Higher ratings could also result in networks other than USA making higher bids to secure the rights to WWE NXT.

Outside of the desire for better ratings and a better rights position, there are benefits to main roster talent in NXT. The decision has allowed young Superstars to share the ring with established veterans including Natalya, AJ Styles, and R-Truth.
