Alex Shelley, a name synonymous with IMPACT Wrestling, has at long last reached the pinnacle of the promotion and become IMPACT World Champion.

At the recent IMPACT Against All Odds event, Steve Maclin put his World Championship on the line against Shelley. The Motor City Machine Gun won a six-way match at Under Siege to become the number-one contender and has been trying to prove he is the better wrestler.

The pair headlined IMPACT Against All Odds, and despite Shelley's desire to outwrestle Maclin, his victory came in a rather unsportsmanlike way. After utilizing an exposed turnbuckle, he was able to hit Shell Shock and pin Maclin to win the World Title for the first. This ends Maclin's reign at 54 days after he won the gold the vacated gold at Rebellion in April against Kushida.

Alex Shelley is the IMPACT Wrestling World Champion, but his first title defense will see him defend against a former World Champion. During Against All Odds, Nick Aldis won the very first 8-4-1 Match, with his team winning in eight-man tag-team action, before Aldis emerged victorious in a fatal-four-way match with his (former allies.)

On Twitter, it was announced that Aldis will challenge Shelley for the IMPACT World Championship at the upcoming Slammiversary event. IMPACT Slammiversary 2023 will occur on July 15, at St. Clair College, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The Slammiversary card will also see Deonna Purrazzo defend her IMPACT Knockouts Championship against Trinity, in the former Naomi's first title opportunity.
