Peacemaker Season 2, featuring John Cena in the titular role, is still in the works despite the changes to DC Comics' media side.

Cena first donned the chrome helmet of Christopher 'Peacemaker' Smith for 2021's The Suicide Squad, which was a loose sequel to the 2016 'Suicide Squad.' Th 16-time WWE World Champion then starred as Peacemaker in the spin-off show that premiered in January 2022. Both The Suicide Squad and the Peacemaker series saw Cena work with writer/director James Gunn.

In February 2022, one month after the premiere of Peacemaker, the HBO Max series was greenlit for a second season, with Cena and Gunn returning to their respective roles. Since that announcement though, Gunn and Peter Safran have been appointed as the Co-Chairmen and Chief Executive Officers of DC Studios and have been tasked with mapping out the future of DC films and TV shows.

Gunn's new role has led to questions about Peacemaker Season 2 and his potential role with the show. Speaking on Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, Gunn was asked whether Peacemaker is coming back but it won't be for a while.

“Peacemaker’’s coming back right after ‘Superman.’ That’s my next thing, go straight from Superman to Peacemaker. ‘Waller’ is first, and ‘Waller’ is a lot of the same people from ‘Peacemaker.’"

'Waller' will focus on Amanda Waller, the morally ambiguous, calculating government official who oversees the operations of the Suicide Squad (known in-universe as Task Force X.) The Superman project Gunn is referring to 'Superman: Legacy' which will focus on the Man of Steel's formative years on Earth. The project is being led by Gunn and will premiere in 2025.
