With the success of shows like Heelz, All Access, and GLOW, wrestling themed television shows have been popular. GLOW focused on women's wrestling in the 80s. Now a movie about the longest reigning women's champion, Mildred Burke, is in the works.

Burke began her career in the 1930s after attending a wrestling show when she was a waitress. WWE's website says: "hundreds of men tried to pin down the feisty female, though few ever succeeded. Women didn’t fare much better; Burke captured the Women’s World Championship shortly after her debut, and she held onto it for two decades."

Queen of the Ring is based off of Jeff Leen's 2009 bestseller, Queen of the Ring: Sex, Muscles, Diamonds, and the Making of an American Legend. The film will be written and directed by Ash Avilsden, writer on Paradise City. Isen Robbins (Tesla) and Aimee Schoof (Missing in America) are executive producers. Jim Ross is reportedly working in a behind-the-scenes capacity.

Burke will be portrayed by Arrow's Emily Bett Rickards. Josh Lucas (Yellowstone), Walter Goggins (Righteous Gemstones), and Marie Avgeropoulous (The 100) have also been cast.

14-time women's world champion, Charlotte Flair has been cast as June Byers. Former SmackDown Women's Champion Liv Morgan will be playing Clara Mortensen.

On Monday, it was announced that Trinity Fatu was joining the cast. It is unclear what role she will be playing, but she tweeted the announcement from Brevard Talent Group.

Fatu was a cast member of WWE's Total Divas. In 2017, she appeared in The Marine 5: Battleground.

According to IMDb, the film is in pre-production. Fatu will be facing Deonna Purrazzo on July 15 for the IMPACT Knockouts Championship.
