Roman Reigns continues to add accolades to his incredible career after becoming the longest reigning champion of the WrestleMania era.

Reigns captured the Universal Championship at Payback in August 2020, dethroning The Fiend in a triple-threat match that included Braun Strowman. At WrestleMania 38, Reigns unified his title with Brock Lesnar's WWE Championship in the main event of Night Two. After reaching 1,000 days as champion, Reigns was presented with a new championship title, though the WWE and Universal titles are still carried to the ring by his special counsel Paul Heyman.

With such a lengthy run as champion, its hardly a surprise that Roman Reigns has broken many records in WWE's history. This week, Reigns surpassed 1,042 days as champion, becoming the longest reigning champion in WWE history since the creation of WrestleMania in 1985. The record was previously held by Hulk Hogan, who's first reign as WWF Champion lasted 1,474 days, only 1,041 days of that reign were as part of the WrestleMania era (i.e. after the first WrestleMania.)

Reigns' tenure as Universal Champion is the fifth longest title reign in WWE history. For him to surpass Hogan's 1,474-day reign, he will have to hold the gold until Monday, September 13, 2027. To become the longest reigning champion of all time, Reigns will need to surpass Bruno Sammartino's first WWF title reign, a 2,8-3 day epic that will be broken on Saturday, May 3, 2021.

In the more immediate future, Reigns is expected to defend his title at Summerslam 2023 against Jey Uso. The former Right-Hand-Man of The Bloodline laid out the challenge on this week's SmackDown.

I guess he will keep it now until Wrestlemania. I don't see Jey Uso defeating him at Summerslam.
