Drew McIntyre hopes to be the one to end the historic reign of Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER at WWE Summerslam.

The Scottish Warrior made his return to WWE programming at WWE Money in the Bank earlier this month, confronting GUNTHER after a successful title defense against Riddle. This marked McIntyre's first appearance for WWE since WrestleMania 39, where he unsuccessfully challenged the Austrian in a triple-threat match that included Sheamus.

Since his return to TV in London, McIntyre has been a thorn in the side of GUNTHER and Imperium and has made his intentions clear. During this week's episode of Monday Night Raw, GUNTHER accepted McIntyre's challenge for a title match at WWE Summerslam.

GUNTHER is closing in on the record for the longest reign as Intercontinental Champion, which is currently held by the Honky Tonk Man. The Austrian powerhouse must make it to September 8, to surpass the WWE Hall of Fame. GUNTHER's reign has seen him become the longest reigning IC Champion of the 21st Century as well as one of three men to hold two titles in WWE for over 400 days (as he is a former NXT UK Champion.)

Raw also saw Becky Lynch defeat Zoey Stark, earning The Man a shot at Trish Stratus at the Biggest Party of the Summer. Had Lynch lost, she would have been forced to get 'Thank You Trish' tattooed on her body. The pair have been feuding since April when Stratus turned on Lynch.

Later in the show, Logan Paul jumped Ricochet during the middle of the latter's in-ring promo. Paul accepted a match at Summerslam, but as the Maverick was insulting the live crowd, Ricochet fought back and hit a shooting star press on the social media star.

WWE Summerslam 2023 will take place on August 5, from Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.
