Many in AEW remain optimistic that it will be just a matter of time before Edge is part of the promotion's roster.

A lot has been said about the future of the Rated-R Superstar in recent days, in the lead-up to this week's match with Sheamus. During this week's SmackDown, Edge defeated the Celtic Warrior in what some have suggested could be the Hall of Famer's last match. Edge himself has stated that the Sheamus match was the last on his current WWE contract and that he is unsure about the future. Edge told the fans after SmackDown that this match was his final time wrestling in Toronto.

Fightful Select reports that there are many in AEW that think that Edge coming to the company is a real possibility. Those close to him claimed earlier this year that the idea of him working in AEW isn’t as “out there” as you’d think. Edge is close to several names on the roster, the most obvious one being Christian Cage. Edge is also close with Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, who helped him prepare for his in-ring return.

The idea of Edge joining AEW was being discussed even before it was claimed that the Sheamus match would be the last on his contract. It is worth noting that WWE has been more quiet about contract extensions, re-signings, releases, and contract expirations as of late. If Edge is to join AEW, it won't be under that name which is trademarked by WWE.

Tony Khan was interested in bringing Edge to AEW back in 2019 before it was even known that an in-ring return was possible. After learning of this, Edge contacted Vince McMahon and WWE's Executive Chairman wanted Edge's in-ring to happen in WWE if it was to happen. WWE set up meetings with doctors and tests to get approved, which led to his return.

I guess it could happen. He could go and finish his career with his old partner Christian.
