Damage CTRL's Dakota Kai will remain on SmackDown throughout her recovery from an ACL injury that has kept her out of action for months.

In May, it was revealed that Kai had suffered a torn ACL that was expected to keep her out of the ring for the remainder of the year. The injury took place during a match pitting herself and IYO SKY against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, in which Morgan also injured her shoulder. Kai reportedly got injured during a spot in which she knew Morgan was hurt and was trying to protect her.

Despite her injury, Dakota Kai appeared at WWE SummerSlam (sans brace) to celebrate with Bayley and IYO SKY, after SKY's successful Money in the Bank contract cash-in and Women's Championship victory. During the post-show press conference, Kai confirmed that she is not healed, and reiterated this point during a recent live stream.

PW Insider reports that Kai is now back on the road and will be a regular at SmackDown TV tapings. This was not the original plan WWE had for the New Zealand-born Superstar when she appeared at SummerSlam. The report confirmed that Kai is not yet cleared to physicality, whether it be in-ring competition or taking bumps. On last week's SmackDown, Damage CTRL attacked Bianca Belair backstage but Kai refrained from doing anything more physical than holding a steel chair.

Kai will soon be launching a video game podcast with fellow WWE Superstar Zelina Vega.
