Wrestling fans are looks forward to seeing what the future of former All Elite Wrestling star CM Punk will be. He was fired from AEW after getting into a backstage altercation with Jack Perry at AEW All In on Aug. 27. The incident that occurred backstage was enough for AEW President Tony Khan to reveal on Sep. 2 that he was afraid for his well-being and made the decision to release Punk.

After being let go from AEW, wrestling fans have wondered if he could be headed back to WWE. He has a complicated eight-year history with WWE, which saw Punk have success and issues with the company. The "Straight Edge Superstar" left the company in 2014 and wouldn't compete again until he joined AEW in 2021.

Now a free agent again, there is a possibility of seeing Punk back in WWE. ESPN's Marc Raimondi asked WWE President Nick Khan about the potential of seeing Punk back in WWE, and Khan gave a statement.

"Listen, we only have respect for Phil. We appreciate his run here. We appreciate what he did and tried to do with the UFC. Not many people can actually get in there and do what he did. So, when we have respect for Phil, we wish him nothing but the best," said Khan.

The statement from the WWE President doesn't clearly say yes or no on whether it's a possibility. That doesn't necessarily mean that Punk can't make a return to WWE, either.

WWE reportedly had a hiring freeze earlier this year while preparing to merge with UFC to form TKO Group Holding. Now that the merger is official, WWE may be looking to sign available free agents. Nia Jax returned on the Sep. 11 episode of WWE Monday Night Raw, and there are rumors that other former WWE talent, like Authors of Pain and Kairi Sane, are returning to the company.

It's unclear what Punk will decide to do after being fired from AEW. However, it doesn't seem like the door is totally closed on Punk ever coming back to WWE.

Would love to see him return. However, move NXT to Wed Night and then put Punk on NXT! There we go!

I could get behind that, except Punk is too big of a star to be featured on NXT every week.
