The September 11, 2023, edition of WWE Monday Night Raw saw a sharp decline in viewers against the premiering NFL season.

This week's Raw saw the Superstars of the red brand continue to build towards next month's WWE Fastlane Premium Live Event. Seth Rollins issued a challenge to Shinsuke Nakamura, who instead made it clear he will challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship when he chooses to.

In the main event, Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley retained her title against Raquel Rodriguez but both were attacked by the returning Nia Jax. Jax has been under contract with WWE for at least a month after being released from the promotion in November 2021.

Despite a stacked show, which included The Judgment Dry continuing their efforts to win over Jey Uso, this week's Raw saw a significant decline in ratings. PW Insider reports that this week's Raw averaged 1.353 million viewers, a sharp downturn from the 1.704 million of last week's broadcast. The show also did a 0.40 in the coveted 18-49 viewing demographic, dropping from the previous week's 0.52 rating.

This drop shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, considering this week marked the return of Monday Night Football. The NFL often draws a substantial number of Raw viewers away from the red brand. For comparison, the Buffalo Bills vs. New York Jets game that went into overtime did 22,615,000 viewers between ESPN, ABC, and ESPN2.

While the NFL often takes viewers from Raw, this week's show saw a historic all-time low for the red brand. The 1.353 million number marks the lowest ever viewership for a normal Raw, with the only episode to ever do lower being a 'Best Of' compilation end-of-year show.

WWE will look to bounce back with next week's episode of Monday Night Raw. So far, only one match has been announced for the show, which will see Shinsuke Nakamura face off against Ricochet. The match was made after Nakamura attacked the One & Only during this week's show.
