AEW recently announced its Collision event in Memphis, Tennessee, slated for October 21. The announcement got buzz for its the peculiar timing of its announcement.

According to Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW's decision to unveil the Memphis show at the FedEx Forum was anything but last-minute planning. Instead, it appears that contractual restrictions with WWE played a significant role in the timing of this announcement.

Meltzer delved into the intricacies of the situation, revealing, "AEW just announced a 10/21 date in Memphis. The reason this date at the Fed Ex Forum was announced so late in the game is that WWE’s contract with arenas calls for no announcing or advertising of dates with other wrestling companies from a certain number of days before the event (so tickets for both aren’t on sale at the same time) and for a period after the event. Raw ran the building on 8/28 so it appears the window is about 15 days after the show before anyone could announce another show."

This sheds light on the often less-visible complexities of the wrestling business, where contractual obligations and venue agreements can significantly impact how and when promotions announce their events. With WWE's Monday Night Raw taking place at the FedEx Forum on August 28, it seems this contractual "cooling-off" period of around 15 days needed to pass before AEW could officially reveal its Memphis Collision.
