Recent changes to WWE's on-screen product may have happened dramatically, but they have led to a more relaxed atmosphere backstage within the promotion.

Earlier this month, Endeavor 'knighted' Triple H as the Head of Creative and removed Vince McMahon from having any role with the division. This decision reportedly came from Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel who believed that people should focus on the role they have been assigned, which in McMahon's case is not to oversee WWE's creative team.

Those within WWE felt like the adjustments to the creative team happened "overnight" according to sources who reached out to Fightful Select. It was added that while Vince McMahon didn't interact directly with creative this year, his "influence" was felt throughout 2023. McMahon's influence would especially be felt when it came to deciding who would and who wouldn't be on TV.

While McMahon did not make changes in person (other than the maligned post-WrestleMania Raw), he did make changes remotely, including at the last minute. He would also make changes over the weekend prior to Raw, including the call to nix a DIY reunion over the Summer.

One anonymous WWE writer said that McMahon's changes were minimal but that the recent adjustments have freshened up how things operate backstage. They added that there is now a more relaxed process and Raw has a much more wide open roster of talent to use.

One WWE source pointed to recent matches as a sign of this, including Ivar Vs. Kofi Kingston, Ricochet Vs. Shinsuke Nakamura, and GUNTHER vs Bronson Reed. They argued that these matches were important in establishing the in-ring aspect of Raw.

One writer said, “Well, I guess he wasn’t lying when he said he wasn’t in the weeds, but in a way, he just sprayed roundup on the weeds and checked in on them every so often.”
