Show:

The fireworks went off in the arena for the start of WWE Friday Night Smackdown! as Michael Cole and Tazz welcomed us to the show, and we are just 48 hours away from No Way Out!

Rey Mysterio vs. Sylvan

Rey Mysterio’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring. He’s wearing one of his shirts and for the first time in recent memory, he doesn’t appear to be wearing any Eddie Guerrero tribute gear. A quick recap is shown of Rey & Orton’s feud from last weeks show. Rey takes his shirt off, and there’s no armbands. Sylvan’s music hits and he starts yapping from the top of the entrance ramp. He plugs himself and rips Rey for hiding behind a mask.

The start:

Rey and Sylvan brawl briefly outside the ring before Rey tosses Sylvan in the ring. Rey basically beats on Sylvan for two minutes but he misses a broncobuster and Sylvan beats down Rey to chants of “Eddie”. He whips Rey hard in the corner and drops a knee. He goes for a pin and gets a two count? Okay? He follows with a suplex and another 2 count. He again whips him into the turnbuckle and picks Rey up for a bearhug. Long bearhug to many more “Eddie” chants.

The Finish:

Rey headbutts his way out of the bearhug and pokes out Sylvan’s eyes. Sylvan gives him a sidewalk slam, and has Rey in some reverse bear hug thingy on the mat. Rey hulks out and just as he’s about to get going, Sylvan hits a nasty clothesline. Mysterio hits the 619 and West Coast Pop almost out of nowhere and gets the pin.

Winner: Rey Mysterio

The Aftermath:

Randy Orton’s music hits and Randy comes out and from the entrance ramp says that if he didn’t have a concussion from last week, he would come down there and beat down Mysterio. Orton says that at least Eddie main evented Wrestlemania and that Rey is no Eddie Guerrero. He will never main event WM, and he will never become world champion because he will never beat him. Orton’s music hits and Rey is yelling at Orton from in the ring.

Backstage:
Rey is shown walking backstage before coming face to face with a mouth guard chomping Kurt Angle. Kurt pep talks Rey and tells him that he’s beaten the odds many times and that Rey should never say never. Kurt tells Rey that it would be his honor to face him at WM. Mark Henry shouts as he interrupts. Rey walks off. Henry says that he should worry about surviving tonight not WM. He says that tonight he’s going to take out both Angle & Undertaker. He walks off.

Orlando Jordan vs. The Boogeyman

Orlando Jordan is in the ring and says that he should be the one facing Booker T for the US Title at No Way Out. Orlando says that there isn’t anyone in the Smackdown locker room that he can’t beat. Several seconds pass and Boogeyman’s music hits and he crawls out, eats some worms, does his shimmy shake, and makes his way to the ring. Orlando doesn’t look thrilled. Boogeyman enters the ring and Orlando leaves the ring.

The match:

Orlando Jordan jumps Boogeyman from behind as Boogeyman is focused on the referee but Boogeyman catches one of his kicks, nails a clothesline, hits his pump handle slam and gets the win in 45 seconds.

Winner: The Boogeyman

The Aftermath:

Boogeyman snacks on another handful of worms over Orlando before leaving the ring. Boogeyman does a reverse shimmy shake gyration as he makes his way up the entrance ramp.

Backstage:
All the cruiserweights look to be arguing backstage and Gregory Helms walks by them and says “Watch & learn, no sweat”.

The Finish:

Helms then puts Scotty in an odd half nelson type hold and Scotty starts to hulk out of it. He breaks the hold hits a backdrop and starts setting up for his worm While he’s hyping the crowd, Helms gets up and nails him with a clothesline. Helms then hits his shining wizard for the finisher.

Winner and still Cruiserweight Champion: Gregory Helms

The Aftermath:
Helms grabs a mic and says that he hopes the cruiserweights in the back were watching because he can do that to any of them anytime he wants. Backstage:
Krystal is shown about to interview Paul Burchill the pirate. Ken Kennedy interrupts and basically says that his gimmick is lame and one that everyone will laugh at. Burchill pulls out a sword and puts it up to Kennedy’s neck. Kennedy now says that a pirate is just what they need and that he thinks it will work and get over. Tazz & Cole then actually say that his gimmick is for real and that Burchill really means business.

Chris Benoit and Bobby Lashley vs. Finlay and John Bradshaw Layfield

Booker T’s music hits and he comes out with Sharmell and a big smile on his face. He makes his way to the ring for more of his entertaining commentary. Booker tells Cole he’s a little upset lately and is trying his best to get out of his No Way Out match. Finlay’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring with his ridiculous staph he carries. JBL’s music then hits and JBL makes his usual entrance. Booker T puts over JBL big time and talks about how JBL is one of his homies and how they grew up today. I’m now really confused. Jillian Hall is sporting a new haircut, her hair is now straight, and somewhat tied back. Lashley’s music hits and he’s introduced as Bobby Lashley. He enters the ring and Finlay & JBL exit. Chris Benoit’s music this and he makes his way to the ring. Booker T is classic on commentary here.

The start:

Benoit begins the match against Finlay. They tie up and grapple a little for the first couple minutes. Cole takes a shot at Lawler here. Sharmell asks if Cole has a stubbed toe because he’s got a high pitch whine to him to which Cole replies “No, that’s the guy on Raw”. Meanwhile, Finlay ties Benoit up in the ring apron with his recently patented spot and both him & JBL stomp on Benoits hand while it’s on the ringsteps. JBL tosses Benoit back in the ring.

Mid-match notes:

JBL is tagged in and he repeatedly stomps on Benoit’s hand. Benoit gets some chops in on JBL but JBL, tags in Finlay since he’s getting chopped in his own corner. Finlay bodyslams Benoit and tags in JBL. JBL hits Benoit with a punch & kick but Benoit reverses a suplex attempt and makes a hot tag to Lashley. Lashley comes on strong and hits JBL with a clothesline in the corner. He belly to belly’s JBL and JBL desperately pulls Lashley through the ropes and out of the ring, Lashley gets right back in and continues to beat down JBL. JBL pokes his eyes and makes the tag to Finlay. Lashley quickly comes to and hits Finlay with a hard clothesline. Finlay exits the ring, Lashley goes after him and JBL hits Lashley with a big boot.

Benoit interjects. JBL is beating on Lashley. He holds Lashley in a sleeper in the middle of the ring. Lashley fades to a sitdown. Does anyone ever win with this thing? Lashley hulks up, gets to his feet, punches out of the hold but Finlay knees him in the back as Lashley hits the ropes and JBL hits a big boot on him. JBL hits him with a neckbreaker and tags in Finlay. Finlay hits him with several uppercuts but Lashley starts throwing punches out of the blue. He tags in Benoit and Benoit hits Finlay with a series of chops and a backdrop. JBL runs in and he does the same to him. Benoit then hits a snap suplex on both of them and for some reason goes for a pin on JBL.

The Finish:

Finlay drops an elbow on him. Finlay then tags in JBL. Chris Benoit then hits 3 Germans on JBL and one on Finlay. He locks in the crossface on JBL but Finlay pulls him out of the ring. Benoit throws Finlay into the ring steps. Just as Benoit is climbing back into the ring, Booker grabs a chair and hits Benoit in the back. Benoit stumbles into the ring and JBL hits the clothesline from hell and gets the pin.

Winners: John Bradshaw Layfield and Finlay

In the arena:
Simon Dean’s music is playing and he is standing in the ring with Gymini. He cuts his usual style promo on the crowd. Just as he’s plugging his Simon System, Matt Hardy’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring.

Simon Dean vs. Matt Hardy

The match:

Matt hits a few punches on Dean but Matt misses a spear attempt in the corner due to interference from Gymini. Gymini is then barred from ringside. Dean gets in the ring and starts beating down Hardy with punches and kicks before tying up Hardy in a front headlock. Hardy starts to come back and they exchange blows before Hardy hits the side effect. Hardy then hits a couple clotheslines and a neckbreaker. He bodyslams Dean and hits a 2nd rope elbow drop. Hardy does a little praying gesture as if he’s begging for a win, just before he hits the Twist of Fate for the win.

Winner: Matt Hardy

Backstage:
Matt Hardy is shown walking up to Melina backstage. Matt says that he accepts Melina’s open challenge from MNM. He says that he will find a tag team partner and see them at No Way Out. Melina is upset as she thought he meant the offer of “you scatch my back, I’ll scratch yours”.

Handicap Match
MNM and Mark Henry vs. The Undertaker and Kurt Angle

MNM’s music hits and they come out and do their usual entrance. Mark Henry’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring with Daivari. Henry looks like he just stepped out of the shower, ring gear and all. Kurt Angle’s music hits and he makes his usual entrance. Kurt Angle & Mark Henry stare at each other from across the ring when Undertaker’s music hits.

The start:

Kurt Angle is ready to start the match but then Undertaker gets in and stands right in front of Angle to take his place. Mercury starts off against him. Mercury tries to stay away but suddenly showers Undertaker with punches. Undertaker picks him up and throws him back into his corner. Mercury tags in Henry. They tie up and Henry shoulder tackles Undertaker as Angle tags himself in. Henry beats down Angle and tags in Nitro. Angle gets the better of Nitro quickly and just as he goes for the ankle lock, Mercury breaks it.

Mid-match notes:

Undertaker than comes in, runs across the ring and boots Henry off the ring apron. MNM starts to stomp on Angle and Undertaker attacks them both. Undertaker and Angle each pair off with a member of MNM in each corner and they try to one up each other. They eventually both toss MNM out of the ring. As they’re looking at each other and Angle is in Undertaker’s face, Henry comes from behind and clotheslines them both out of the ring. MNM is beating down Angle in their corner. Nitro is the legal man and puts Angle in a headlock in the middle of the ring.

Angle gets to his feet and breaks the hold but Nitro tags Mercury in and Mercury goes for a couple pins. Mercury gets Angle back in his corner and he tags in Henry. Henry headbutts Angle and goes for a pin. He then chokes Angle when Angle kicks out. Angle quickly applies the ankle lock but Henry kicks out. Henry grabs Angle and brings him to his corner and tags in Mercury. Mercury holds Angle in a headlock. Angle hulks up and lands a suplex. Angle crawls to the corner and makes the hot tag. Undertaker cleans house, gets ready to hit a double chokeslam on MNM but Mark Henry attacks Undertaker from behind.

The Finish:

Henry tags in immediately after and taunts Angle in the corner. Henry bodyslams Undertaker. Henry punches down Taker in his corner. Taker then tags in Mercury. Mercury chokes Undertaker and tags Nitro in. MNM both suplex Undertaker. Nitro tags in Henry. Henry lands a couple punches on Taker but Taker suddenly starts to punch out. Henry stops him in his tracks by punching back. Taker comes off the ropes and hits a clothesline. Angle blind tags himself back in and Angle cleans house. Undertaker big boots Henry and Angle makes Nitro tap out to the ankle lock.

Winners: Kurt Angle and The Undertaker

The Aftermath:
Angle gets in Undertaker’s face and just when Undertaker looks like he’s going to chokeslam Angle, he grabs Henry and chokeslams and tombstones Henry. Angle looks in awe but then gets in Undertaker’s face and holds up the belt as the show goes off the air.
