Tribute Gala scheduled for June 3 at Toronto’s Hummingbird Centre

Toronto, ON (February 22, 2006) - Glitter meets glam at the 2006 Canada’s Walk of Fame tribute gala. Canada’s Walk of Fame along with broadcast partner CTV confirmed today that Trish Stratus, the reigning World Wrestling Entertainment® (WWE®) Women’s Champion, will host the 2006 Canada’s Walk of Fame broadcast. The 2006 Canada’s Walk of Fame induction ceremony will be held Saturday, June 3 at Toronto’s Hummingbird Centre.

Stratus will unveil the 2006 Inductees for Canada’s Walk of Fame at a press conference scheduled for Wednesday, March 8 at the Paramount Theatre in Toronto.

Toronto native Trish Stratus is recognized around the globe as one of the WWE’s biggest stars and one of the world’s most successful sports entertainers. In addition to her role with the WWE, she is a multi-talented entertainer who has performed live with Toronto’s Second City, appeared on Royal Canadian Air Farce and was named one of “Canada’s 30 Most Powerful Women” by Elle Canada in 2003. She has appeared on Fox’s Mad TV, performed at Montreal’s Just For Laughs festival and has co-hosted CTV’s eTalk Daily.

“I’m really thrilled to be hosting, even though I wasn’t the first choice,” said Stratus. “I understand the guys from Brokeback Mountain refused to wax.”
Stratus said she was won over by the efforts of Canada’s Walk of Fame CEO and President, Peter Soumalias.

“I’d really like to thank Peter for this great opportunity,” she said. “And the flowers. And for the hugs. Really, enough with the hugs.”

“Trish is a multi-talented performer,” said Soumalias. “Through hard work, dedication, and perseverance, she has risen to the pinnacle of her profession at a very young age. In many ways, she personifies the principles of Canada’s Walk of Fame.”

"From fashion and fitness to TV and print, Trish Stratus is a multi-media, cross-over star with wide appeal, " said Susanne Boyce, CTV President of Programming and Chair of the CTV Media Group. “We know she will attract a whole new audience to the broadcast.”

In addition to the gala, CTV will broadcast a Red Carpet special preceding the Walk of Fame ceremony, produced from CTV’s entertainment unit, eTalk Daily. CTV is the exclusive broadcast partner for Canada’s Walk of Fame through 2007. Canada’s Walk of Fame recently announced a national contest in which anyone can nominate a potential inductee via the Walk of Fame’s website (www.canadaswalkoffame.com). Contest winners will walk down the Red Carpet, get an up close and personal view as the 2006 inductees unveil their stars, watch the live Tribute Gala show, mingle with the stars at the Black Tie Gala and more. To date, thousands have visited the website to nominate the Canadian they think deserves a star.
