The actress was filming a scene for her new film PS I Love You with her Scottish co-star Gerard Butler when she was hurt.
Sources on the set told People magazine that her co-star was performing a strip tease for Swank when one of his suspenders became snagged and pinged off, striking the star in the head.
According to the publication, filming was temporarily halted and Swank was seen by paramedics who gave her sutures.
The magazine's source added: "Swank is recovering and in good spirits, and production will resume on Monday."
In the movie, Swank plays a young widow who discovers that her late husband has left her messages intended to help her start a new life.
The movie also stars Kathy Bates.
