A 50-year-old man in Winnipeg, Canada is recovering in hospital from injuries he suffered after walking into a small aircraft's rotating propeller blades.

The man suffered upper-body injuries including a dislocated right shoulder in the accident but is fortunate to survive what could have been a fatal accident.

"The chances of surviving impact with a propeller on any aircraft is remote", RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve Saunders agreed. "This gentleman is extremely fortunate".

Saunders said the 56-year-old pilot was taxiing his single-engine Cessna to a hangar on his property.

"One of the men who was helping him (by stopping oncoming traffic) walked in front of the propeller," Saunders said. "He had his vehicle there and he was trying to make sure that the wing of the plane was going to clear his vehicle".

Propellers spin at high speeds and in most other cases have severed limbs and caused fatal injuries with their blades so the man is lucky to be in one piece.
