Blind Man Sentenced To Reading & Writing Course
A blind Turkish pensioner has been sentenced to a 26-day reading and writing course at his local library after he failed to vote on time in an election for his village.
A prosecutor in northwest Turkey sentenced 73 year-old Ismail Canseven to the education course after he did not show up for the election that was held in May.
"What am I going to do in a library? I can't see out of either of my eyes, and I can't read or write anyway", a surprised Ismail said upon hearing of the decision.
The man's son, Isa Canseven, says he couldn't believe it and will appeal the decision. "My father can only find the bathroom by holding on to a piece of string we've tied to the bathroom wall", he said.
If you're wondering, in Turkey it's against the law to not vote in an election.
