Liverpool want to rearrange their Premiership game with Blackburn on 15 April as it clashes with the annual Hillsborough Memorial service.

The match had originally been put back to 1715 GMT to accommodate the service at Anfield earlier in the day.

But now Liverpool have exited the Champions League a new date is an option, with Rovers' permission.

"We have already been in touch with the Premier League and Blackburn," said
Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry.

Parry told the Liverpool website: "This is an issue we were aware of right at the start of the season.

"That's why we contacted the Hillsborough Families' Support group last June and they said they accepted that, sadly, one day it might be an inevitability that we'd have to play on 15 April.

"Now we are out of Europe, there may be some scope to look once again but it's not just our fixtures to consider, it's Blackburn's as well and this is their home fixture at the end of the day."

Relatives of the 96 supporters who died in the disaster at the 1989 FA Cup semi-final with Nottingham Forest had led calls for the game to be moved as the service is normally attended by Liverpool players and officials.
