Crowe Buys Majority Interest in Rugby Club

Published: 3/19/06, 6:46 AM EDT
SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - Actor Russell Crowe loves the South Sydney rugby league club so much that he bought a majority interest in the team Sunday.

The New Zealand-born, Australian-raised Crowe, a lifelong fan of the Rabbitohs, teamed with businessman Peter Holmes a Court to make an offer to buy the club.

On Sunday, 1,200 South Sydney members voted to approve a 3 million Australian dollar ($2.10 million) plan to privatize the club.

After Crowe appeared at the club's general meeting, his bid achieved a 75.8 percent majority vote, just above the 75 percent majority required for approval and enough to give he and Holmes a Court a controlling interest.

Crowe, who has a home in Sydney, won an Oscar for his role in the 2000 movie "Gladiator." His screen credits also include "The Insider," "A Beautiful Mind" and "Cinderella Man."

You're not the only one Kellie. I don't see the interest in him at all. Never seen any of his movies except Gladiator.
