SAN FRANCISCO - A man once accused of stalking Nicole Kidman has been convicted in a separate case for breaking a glass in a woman’s face, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Matthew Hooker, 46, could face as many as seven years in prison for the December 2005 incident at a San Francisco bar, which left a woman with facial scars. He was convicted of mayhem and assault with a deadly weapon.
Prosecutors said Hooker approached the woman, who ignored him until he started making unwanted advances to other women. He pushed her and threw water in her face when she told him he was rude, prosecutors said.
Hooker argued that the glass broke accidentally.
He was ordered in 2001 to stay away from Kidman for three years. The actress claimed he went to her home and sent her letters stating he would like to tutor her son and daughter. Kidman and the children’s father, Tom Cruise, split up that year, and she has since married country singer Keith Urban.
“I was attracted to her,” Hooker said at the time. “I wrote her a love poem. I wrote her a letter. I went by her house to ask to take her to the ballet and to take her kids to ice cream. That’s it.
“All I know is, I’ve never been violent. I’ve never been angry; I’ve never harassed anyone,” he said.
