Smackdown Results - 31st Mar 2006

Show:

Rey’s music hits and he makes his usual entrance. Rey grabs a mic and says that this Sunday, his dream comes true, he wrestles for the World Title at Wrestlemania. Rey says he’s worked for this all his life but someone says he doesn’t deserve to be there, someone who says he’s a charity case, and that someone is Randy Orton. Rey calls Orton out. Orton doesn’t show so Rey calls for Teddy Long. Kurt Angle’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring. Angle walks up to Rey and says that with all due respect, he’s the one who wants Randy Orton one on one tonight after what he did to him last week. Angle then says he’s going to walk away champ at Wrestlemania because nobody beats the wrestling machine. Orton’s music finally hits and he slowly makes his way out to the top of the entranc way wearing a new t-shirt and jeans. Orton teases them a little saying he seems to have gotten under their skin. Orton suggests Kurt Angle & Rey Mysterio vs. Randy Orton in a handicap match. He proceeds to call Angle a paper champion, and Rey a charity case. He says he’ll embarrass them tonight. Then he says, too bad, he doesn’t want to jeopardize his chances at Mania by wrestling tonight. He says he’s going to pack his bags and head for Chicago right now. Long’s music hits and he meets Orton on the entrance ramp. Long says that the handicap match sounds intriguing. Orton accuses Long of playing favorites. They have a little shouting match on the runway over it before Angle interrupts followed by a Rey interruption. Rey and Angle go face to face because Rey is upset that Angle insinuated that Angle suggested Rey can’t beat him. Randy interrupts them and suggests an Angle vs Mysterio match so he can prove he belongs in the main event. Rey & Angle are both as stupid as Trish as they agree to the match. Long calls out security to remove Orton from the building. Orton actually seems upset.

Backstage:
Randy is shown whining in the parking lot as he gets in his SUV and speeds off.


Non Title Match
The Road Warrior vs. Chris Benoit (c)
Referee: Nick Patrick

Chris Benoit’s music hits and he makes his entrance. Road Warrior then comes out with mic in hand complaining that someone of his stature isn’t on the card at Wrestlemania. He says that he’s going to beat Benoit tonight to show that he is big time.

The start:
They tie up and Warrior overpowers Benoit. They mutually break and Animal slaps Benoit. Benoit returns with a series of chops before Animal goes through the ropes for a break. Animal comes back in and they exchange punches. Benoit hits his three Germans, goes for the sharpshooter but Warrior powers out.

The Finish:
Benoit runs at Warrior in the corner but he lifts his legs to kick Benoit. Animal reaches into his pocket for brass knuckles. As he goes to punch Benoit, Benoit takes him down and slaps on the crossface.

Winner: The United States Champion, Chris Benoit

The Aftermath:
Benoit is shown walking through the curtain and his greeted to an applauding JBL with Jillian Hall. JBL says that JBL could be the greatest technical wrestler of our generation. He says he reminds him of Eddie Guerrero, the guy he took the championship off of. He says he’s going to take Benoit’s title on Sunday. Benoit just says that he’s glad JBL’s hand is healed up so he can tap out on Sunday.


John Bradshaw Layfield vs. Daniel Cross
Referee: Charles Robinson

The match:
JBL’s music hits, and he makes his usual limo entrance with Jillian Hall. Some jobber is waiting in the ring for him and Cole tries to sell us that he will be a tough test for JBL. JBL proceeds to destroy him with a couple punches, a kick, and two clotheslines from hell.

Winner: John Bradshaw Layfield

Mike Mizanin vignette is shown with Miz shown visiting Titan Towers.


Booker T vs. Paul Burchill
Referee: Chris Kay

Booker T’s music hits and he comes out in his ring gear with a spooked Sharmell in her beauty queen garb. Paul Burchill’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring.

The start:
Burchill tosses his beads to the crowd a la Mardi Gras before the match. They tie up with Booker cinching on a headlock. Burchill tosses Booker into the ropes and hits a drop toe hold. Burchill slaps on a headlock and the match goes about another 30 seconds of some non-eventful wrestling before Boogeyman’s music hits. Booker & Sharmell leave the ring and wonder where Boogey is.

The Finish:
Burchill is still laying in the ring. Booker goes under the ring looking for Boogeyman but Boogey comes out the other side right behind Sharmell, picks her up and carries her up the runway and leaves. Booker reluctantly chases and Burchill gets the win via countout.

Winner by count out: Paul Burchill


Backstage:
Booker is shown running around frantically backstage looking for Sharmell.


Six Man Tag Team Match
Bobby Lashley, Tatanka and Matt Hardy vs. MNM and Finlay
Referee: Nick Patrick

Lashley’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring. Matt Hardy’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring for his usual crucifixion. Tatanka’s music then hits and he makes his way to the ring to some canned heat. MNM’s music then hits and they make their usual entrance with an ever-so-smokin’ Melina. Finlay’s music then hits and he makes his entrance.

The start:
Finlay enters and right away pushes Tatanka. The ref separates them. Hardy & Mercury start with Mercury getting hiptossed before Lashley & Nitro are both tagged in. Lashley clears the ring and calls for Finlay to come in. Finlay reluctantly comes in. MNM enters the ring and club Lashley from behind. Lashley hits a double suplex. Lashley tags in Tatanka and he hits a chop, clothesline, and a chop or two, followed by a leg drop on Nitro.

Mid-match notes:
Finlay kicks Tatanka as Tatanka hits the ropes. Finlay is then tagged in and he starts to beat the hell out of Tatanka. Finlay continues to work over Tatanka before tagging Mercury in. Tatanka starts to come back but Mercury hits a neckbreaker. Nitro is then tagged in and he hits a legdrop over the ropes as he enters. Finlay boots Tatanka in the head a couple times from the outside. Nitro slaps on a reverse chinlock and Tatanka hulks up. Tatanka hits a back suplex and Mercury runs in trying to break the hot tag.

The Finish:
Tatanka fights him off and makes the hot tog to Hardy. Hardy cleans house, hits a couple side effects before everyone starts to jump in. Big mess with some good spots as Lashley goes after Finlay and interrupts a Snap Shot attempt before Hardy hits the twist of fate on Mercury and ends up getting the pin.

Winners: Bobby Lashley, Tatanka and Matt Hardy


In the arena:
There’s a black wreath in the ring with a rest in peace bow on it as Mark Henry’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring in a suit with a black book in hand (not a Bible). He enters the ring and steps into the ring and up to the podium in the middle of the ring. Some typical Undertaker style music hits, the lights dim and Mark Henry cuts a promo. He runs through all of the men Undertaker has beaten at Wrestlemania (Big Boss Man got a bigger pop than Sid or Deisel). Typically very boring, nothing new, unexpected or interesting and his music hits and he leaves the ring.


The Mexicools vs. Kid Kash and Jamie Noble
Referee: Charles Robinson

Mexicools music hits and Super Crazy & Psicosis hit the ring in their ride mowers. Kid Kash & Jamie Noble then come to the ring together. Noble mocks the ridemower and starts trashing it as Kash ambushes Super Crazy & Psicosis from behind.

The start:
Noble drops Super Crazy onto the ride mower as Kash beats down Psicosis. Noble is tagged in and starts to beat the hell out of Psicosis. Kash is tagged in and Kash continues the assault. Kash goes for a pin, near fall. Noble is tagged back in and they double shoulder Psicosis. Noble hits a suplex, near fall.

Mid-match notes:
Noble then slaps on a camel clutch. He breaks the hold and drops an elbow on Psicosis. He bring his to the corner and hits him with several chops and kicks. Noble whips him into the opposite corner and gets a boot into Noble but Noble fights him off, goes to the top rope, but Psicosis hits him with a dropkick in the gut. Double tag, Crazy & Kash hit the ring and Crazy hits three dropkicks in a row on Kash. Crazy hits a backbreaker but Noble runs in and hits a swinging neckbreaker on Crazy.

The Finish:
Psicosis then takes out Noble and they battle outside the ring as Psicosis hits Noble with a corkscrew over the ropes. Kash now has control on Super Crazy, he goes to the top rope and Psicosis delays him enabling Crazy to hit a really awesome finish, superplex moonsault off the top rope.

Winners: The Mexicools


Backstage:
Booker T is shown freaking out backstage before stumbling upon a bunch of worms on the floor outside a locked door. Booker tiptoes through the worms.

Back on Smackdown:
Booker is shown on top of a darkened stairwell covered in worms. A screaming Sharmell can be heard. Booker breaks through a door (a little too easily) and she’s standing in a dark basement room on a box surrounded by worms. Boogeyman can be heard laughing and is shown in the distance.


Non Title Match
Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle (c)
Referee: Jim Korderas

The start:
Rey is sporting a different mask than earlier this evening. Angle takes control from the get go but Rey aerials his way out of an armbar. Angle just laughs. Angle takes down Rey into a headlock in the middle of the ring. Rey gets to his feet and tosses Angle into the ropes and Angle is drop toe hold into position for the 619 but Angle dodges it.

Mid-match notes:
They take a moment to reflect on what just happened. They again tie up and Angle again gets the better of Rey but Rey hits a headscissors off the ropes and then hits a second head scissors on Angle tossing Angle out of the ring. Rey goes after him but Angle uses Rey’s own momentum to push him into the barricade. Angle then gets back into the ring. Angle is booting Rey in the gut in the middle of the ring. Angle bodyslams Rey and gets a near fall. Angle again kicks Rey in the gut. Angle is taking his time and hits Rey with an uppercut. He goes for a couple pin attempts.

Angle then slaps on a body scissors on Rey on the mat. Rey starts to fight Angle off but Angle quickly counters and hits a belly to belly, followed by a regular suplex. Near fall. Angle slaps on a reverse chinlock. Rey struggles to reach the ropes but instead gets to his feet. Rey elbows Angle to the gut but Angle whips Rey into the ropes, Rey hits a bulldog on Angle. Both men are down but Angle gets up first and grabs Rey but Rey starts punching at Angle before running into the ropes and hitting a crossbody. Near fall.

The Finish:
Rey tries for a really unique pin attempt but doesn’t get the pin. Angle gets to his feat and his a German on Rey. Angle starts hyping up and Rey reverses the Angle slam and escapes, Angle slaps on the ankle lock but Rey spins Angle in position for the 619 to escape. Rey goes to hit it but Angle catches him, slaps on the ankle lock and locks it in. Rey taps out.

Winner: The World Heavyweight Champion, Kurt Angle

The Aftermath:
Angle heads up the ramp and Orton comes into the ring from behind Rey and RKO’s him. Angle just smiles. Orton tells Angle to wipe the smile off his face because on Sunday he’s dropping him with the RKO as well. Angle hits the ring the brawl, Randy goes for the RKO but Angle reverses into the ankle lock. Orton struggles like hell to escape before tapping after 5 seconds or so.
