Felled ... Langer inspects the damage.
A CONCUSSED Justin Langer will be assessed by doctors tonight (AEST) before a decision is made on his fitness to return to the crease for Australia on the third day of the third Test against South Africa.
Mike Hussey top-scored with 73 overnight at the Wanderers to lead Australia's lower-order recovery.

The tourists reached 7-246 at the close of the second day's play, trailing South Africa's first-innings total of 303 by 57 runs with three wickets in hand.

Langer, playing in his 100th Test, lasted one ball as he ducked into a bouncer from Makhaya Ntini and was led dazed and bleeding from the field.

"He was in the hospital until about 10 minutes ago, he's just back at the hotel now," team physio Alex Kountouris said shortly after stumps this morning (AEST).

"I will speak to the doctor. It depends on how he feels by tomorrow.

"He felt his arms and legs were weak. Every time he sat up he felt very giddy.

"He's quite good now. He's still quite weary. He has a pretty significant concussion."

Langer, 35, had two stitches in the back of his head.

With his parents Colin and Joy-Anne having flown over from Perth especially for the match, Langer slumped to his knees then rolled over onto his back before staggering from the field assisted by Kountouris and squad member Shaun Tait. Langer's shirt was covered in blood.

"Justin has had a CAT scan in hospital which is clear," Kountouris said.

South Africa resumed on 6-238 on day two, losing its last four wickets for 65 runs. Ashwell Prince made 93 and Brett Lee and Stuart Clark each took three wickets.

Paceman Ntini exploited the seam-friendly conditions against Australia to take his 11th five-wicket haul.

Ntini claimed the wickets of Matthew Hayden, Damien Martyn, Ricky Ponting and Andrew Symonds and also removed Shane Warne after a typically aggressive 33-ball innings of 36.

Hussey shared a half-century stand with Warne for the second successive Test before the leg spinner was caught at deep fine leg at 6-174.

Lee made a gutsy 42 not out and took up where Warne left off, adding 68 runs for the seventh wicket with Hussey.

Michael Kasprowicz was not out without scooring at the close.

Lee was struck on the hip by Ntini at 5.22pm local time and the umpires immediately offered the light to the batsmen.

Australia leads the three-match series two-nil but has lost the dead rubber in each of its past two South African Test tours.
