Sir Paul McCartney has reportedly authorised a £25m divorce offer to his estranged wife, Heather Mills.
According to The Mirror, the ex-Beatle wants to bring an end to his increasingly bitter battle with the former glamour model.
Lawyers for the couple have apparently been locked in "intense and heightened" talks.
It is hoped that the divorce could be formally settled within a month.
Sir Paul is thought to have authorised the deal to avoid a messy court case. It is the first time the former Beatle has agreed to open negotiations.
In leaked documents, Mills apparently alleged he had stabbed her with a glass, and shoved her while she was pregnant.
Under the terms of the agreement, it is reported that she would receive a lump sum, and their three-year-old daughter Beatrice would have her own trust fund.
If it were agreed, the deal would be smaller than expected, and just a fraction of Sir Paul's estimated £825m fortune.
