Notorious BIG was one of the rap world's biggest stars
A Los Angeles official wants to put up a $50,000 (£28,600) reward for leads in the murder of rap star Notorious BIG.

Councilman Dennis Zine's proposal for a 60-day reward offer is being considered by city authorities.

The investigation into the 1997 shooting has been reopened with a new team of detectives.

A court case intended to uncover the truth about the murder was declared a mistrial in 2005 after the police were found to have withheld evidence.

Errors

"I am hopeful someone will come forward with information which will lead to the eventual apprehension of the murderers involved in this case," Mr Zine said.

A $25,000 (£14,330) reward offered in the wake of the murder expired after several months.

Notorious BIG, real name was Christopher Wallace, died after seven shots were fired into his vehicle, after a music awards party.

His family has been trying to sue the Los Angeles Police Department for wrongful death.

When the initial case collapsed, city authorities paid the family $1.1m (£632,000) for errors made during the trial.

The family are to go ahead with a retrial, alleging a police officer was involved in the shooting.

Notorious BIG was signed to Bad Boy Records in 1993, which turned him into one of the world's biggest rap stars.
