It was a night of title changes at the Deep South Wrestling television taping in McDonough, Georgia.

Bradley Jay beat Ryan O’Reilly to become the first three time Deep South Heavyweight Champion. The heavyweight title has now changed hands at each of the last three television tapings, and four times since January 25.

Team Elite beat Majors Brothers to win Deep South tag team titles in what ranks among the best matches ever at the DSW Arena. It was a sweet victory for Mike Knox and Derrick Neikirk, who had never held the titles despite being the top team in the company from day one.

Attendance was around 250, a comfortably full but not packed house. Lots of kids and that’s where most of the heat comes from now.

Ted Guinness and G-Rilla did commentary for the dark matches. Rob Russo subbed for Guinness ring announcer. Listening to him is torture.

(a) Ray Gordy pinned Ace Steel at 8:50 with the spinning fisherman suplex. A solid, basic wrestling match with a bit of comedy stemming from Gordy’s hillbilly character. Steel made a good opponent for Gordy because there was minimal size differential. Not to mention that Steel is a fine wrestler. Gordy is pretty over at this stage of the game. Steel didn’t do any rule breaking, but was victimized by Gordy’s schtick. Gordy did his pet move where he put Steel in a headscissors, hammered his head into the mat, and mule kicked him. Steel crashed and burned on a tumbleweed, and Gordy capitalized with his finisher. Steel grudgingly accepted Gordy’s handshake after the match.

(b) Afa beat Heath Miller in 8:08 with a fireman’s carry into a sitout facebuster. Crowd was amped for this one. Lots of Miller love. Miller was sporting a wild and crazy carrot top hairdo. Wes Adams was the referee. He wrestled indies as Scott Starr prior to being signed. They opened with a hot running-the-ropes sequence wherein Miller ducked Afa’s high crossbody and nailed him with one of his own. Afa leveled Miller with a savate kick to take over. He mixed in the traditional Samoan headbutts as he worked the arm. Afa busted his butt on a missed legdrop and Miller hit Sliced Bread #2. Afa kicked out of the delayed cover. But Afa got out from under Miller’s corner moonsault and ended it. Good match. Cool finisher.

(c) Freakin Deacon pinned “Rebel” Bobby Hoskins in 4:42 with a roll of the dice. The surprise here was how much offense Hoskins got on Deacon. Funny moment after the opening lock up ended in a stand off when Hoskins said Deacon was strong and weird. Hoskins clamped on the bearhug and the Deacon chants abounded. Deacon gave Hoskins the big boot to set up the finisher. Deacon exited out the front door as per usual.

Rebecca DiPietro, Brooke Adams, and Luscious came out to do the merchandise drawing with DiPietro running the show. She definitely looks better with the curls.

Nigel Sherrod had Vito as guest commentator for the television taping. The guy knows how to work a crowd. Huge pop followed by a “Vito” chant.

Krissy Vaine dragged Angel Williams out to open the show. Vaine asked Williams if she was going to accept her proposition to be co-general manager of DSW. Williams said Vaine was underhanded and disgusting and her idea was awfully ingenious. Vaine promised to give Nattie Neidhart a wrestling lesson. They left doing that fakey wave to the crowd.

A promo by Kofi Kingston was shown. Kingston said he had been in Jamaica training by running in the soft sand and climbing the mountains, and nothing was going to stop him from getting the DSW title.

(1) Kofi Nahaje Kingston pinned Brian Cage at 3:54 with a flying bodypress. Kingston has some powerful babyface charisma going for him. He did a call and response deal with the crowd of “Bo! Bo! Bo!” Kingston dominated with his aerial maneuvers. Cage appeared to be out of position on the finish, so it didn’t look as good as it might have.

A promo by Robert Anthony and Johnny Curtis was shown on the big screen. They’ve formed a regular tag team and said they were going to make it two for two.

(2) Robert Anthony & Johnny Curtis beat Jon Bolen & Shawn Osborne in 6:01. The pop for Anthony and Curtis was impressive. They’re both good athletes with lean, cut physiques. After seeing Bolen on TV, I wrote that he looked like a bargain basement Johnny Nitro. Live, he was much closer to a young Scot Levy. Typical tag team match format. Curtis took the heat. Anthony took the hot tag and pulled of an spectacular leapfrog-backflip-standing dropkick sequence. The finish was botched. It was supposed to be simultaneous top rope dives from opposite corners, but Anthony slipped or something. Curtis hit his half and pinned Osborne.

DiPietro tried to interview Vaine, but Williams told her to take a hike. Vaine said Neidhart might be from the most prestigious wrestling families ever, but she was no more special or talented than Krissy. “Sweet!” said Angel.

Backstage Neidhart promo. She said Vaine was an example of how absolute power corrupts absolutely. Neidhart mentioned her status as a third generation Hart family wrestler.

(3) Krissy Vaine pinned Nattie Neidhart in 4:32 with the help of Angel Williams. Neidhart got a strong pop as she entered for her first DSW match. Neidhart is a powerhouse, no doubt, and she throws wicked forearms and good-looking punches. Vaine heeled and cut off Neidhart’s comebacks, until Neidhart caught her with a roll up and hit a Michinoku driver for a near fall. Williams grabbed Neidhart’s leg and Vaine pinned her by hooking hands with Angel for extra leverage.

Team Elite promo. Knox said tonight was the night. Neikirk called it the final chapter.

Majors Brothers said Elite had been trying to derail the Long Island Express for the last four weeks, and Elite were in for a fight with the champs.

(4) Team Elite (Derrick Neikirk & Mike Knox) beat Majors Brothers (Brian & Brett) to win the DSW Tag Team Titles in 7:49. It had been a decent show up until this point, but this match took it to another level. The heat was off the hook before they were done. In the opening minute, Majors hit a beautifully-timed double leapfrog into a double Japanese armdrag on Knox. But Brian missed on a twisting springboard crossbody and the heat was on. Elite isolated Brian and gave him a beating. Knox absolutely obliterated Brian with a lariat, the kind JBL only did in his dreams. Hot tag. Hart Attack on Knox and Neikirk saved. Ref bump to set up THE SPOT. Brett got crotched on the top. Neikirk sacrificed Knox with a sunset powerbomb, as Knox superplexed Brett. Neikirk then picked Brian off the top with a climbing overhead suplex. All four men down and destroyed with the crowd going nuts. Knox went for the Whip It, but Brett countered with a reverse roll up. Niekirk kicked Brett in the face. Knox covered Brett, and Adams recovered to make the three count. Team Elite did a lengthy postmatch celebration. And so it should be.

Luscious did a backstage interview with O’Reilly.

(5) Bradley Jay beat Ryan O’Reilly to win the DSW Heavyweight Title in 7:58. The tag match seemed to energize the crowd rather than drain them. Jay got bigtime heat and O’Reilly got the best babyface pop of the night. Jay pounced on an opening and worked over the head and neck of O’Reilly. The O-RI-LEE chants erupted. Jay took it to the ground. Comeback time. O’Reilly took a page out of Mike Taylor’s book with a leg lariat for a near fall. Double clothesline and both men down. Jay went to the apron and as he lowered his head to step through the ropes, O”Reilly dropped him in his tracks with a stiff kneelift to the jaw. Out of nowhere, Jay pinned O’Reilly with his feet on the ropes. Good stuff but an uninspired finish for a title match.
