Black Shadow (Alejandro Cruz Ortiz) aka Shadito Cruz died last night from pneumonia at the age of 82 and was buried today. Shadito was one of the forefathers of lucha libre in Mexico and his feud with El Santo was legendary culminating in the first ever mascara contra mascara match on 11/7/53 at Arena Coliseo where he lost his mask to Santo. Shadito was also part of the first tag team match at Arena Mexico teaming with Fernando Oses (Los Churumbles) to against Los Demons (Black y Blue.) Shadito was long rumored to be the brother of Blue Demon but that was really never confirmed. Shadito never had a son to follow his footsteps into the ring but gave his permission to one guy although lots of guys over the years have gravytrained off his name. Shadito was also known as one of the guys to bring the aerial style into lucha libre introducing the tope both regular and reverse and carried the name “rubber man” because of his speed and gracefulness. Luminaries appearing at his funeral were Halcon Dorado/Huracan Ramirez (Eduardo Bonada who played him in the movies)/Scorpio and others sent flowers such as Blue Demon Jr.
