Jets Sign Offensive Lineman Trey Teague

NEW YORK (AP) - The New York Jets signed offensive lineman Trey Teague on Wednesday, picking up a possible replacement at center for Kevin Mawae.

Teague, a seventh-round draft pick by Denver in 1998, spent the last four seasons with Buffalo and started every game with the Bills. Buffalo converted Teague into a center - a position he played in college - after he played left tackle with the Broncos.

"Trey is a physical, tough, smart and determined veteran who provides our offensive line with flexibility and experience," Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said in a release. "He is a consistent player with a physical presence and we look forward to integrating him into our program."

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"He is a player that I am very familiar with, having seen quite a bit of him over the course of the last four seasons," said Jets coach Eric Mangini, a former defensive coordinator and assistant coach with New England.

Mawae, who had a streak of six straight Pro Bowls snapped last season, was let go by the Jets after eight years in New York.

The 31-year-old Teague is the seventh unrestricted free agent to sign with the Jets this offseason, joining linebackers Matt Chatham and Brad Kassell, cornerback Andre Dyson, defensive linemen Kimo von Oelhoffen and Monsanto Pope and wide receiver-kick returner Tim Dwight.

New York also added acquired quarterback Patrick Ramsey in a trade with Washington, and re-signed unrestricted free agent tight end Chris Baker.
