Milan came out on top in their local derby with Internazionale at the San Siro, Kakha Kaladze getting the only goal mid-way through the second half.

Inter had the better of the game at the start and finish of the match, but in-between Milan had the majority of the possession and finally made the pressure pay thanks to the Georgian's goal.

The Nerazzurri went close late on, but most of Milan's problems were caused by their own goalkeeper's poor judgement and handling.

Dida struggled in the first half and Inter used every opportunity to fire shots from any distance at the Brazilian.

Dejan Stankovic saw one effort fly over the crossbar before forcing Dida into a save, which he fumbled, before recovering to block Esteban Cambiasso's follow-up.

Dida made a comfortable stop from Cristiano Zanetti before Milan finally put a foothold on the game.

However, for all their midfield possession, Carlo Ancelotti's men failed to trouble Julio Cesar in the Inter goal with any of their first-half efforts.

The second half continued much in the same vein with Milan in the ascendancy. Clarence Seedorf stumbled at the vital moment with the goal at his mercy while a combination of Ivan Cordoba and Cesar kept Andrei Shevchenko and Kaka out.

At the other end, Luis Figo was guilty of missing a glorious header to put Inter ahead. Unchallenged in the area, the Portuguese midfielder somehow sent his close-range header the wrong side of the post.

The Rossoneri finally broke the deadlock with 20 minutes to go thanks to an unlikely goalscorer.

Inter failed to clear properly from a corner and Seedorf's ball back into the box found an unmarked Kakha Kaladze, who having brought the ball down on his chest, fired a thunderous shot into the back of the net from 12 yards for his second Serie A strike of the season.

Roberto Mancini's side had three great chances to claim an equaliser but Cambiasso twice missed the target and Stankovic's long-range strike was straight at Dida.
