Owen Hargreaves has set his sights on winning a place in England's World Cup squad this summer after making a successful comeback from groin surgery. The 25-year-old midfielder has hit form for Bayern Munich since returning in March and is hopeful he will be among the 23 names Sven-Goran Eriksson picks. Hargreaves faces tough competition for a midfield berth in Germany behind influential playmakers David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Joe Cole.

Hargreaves has won 29 England caps - 27 of them as a substitute.

But the Bundesliga player, who has won 29 England caps, believes he has plenty to offer the team now he has returned to full fitness. Hargreaves' last appearance for England was as a substitute in their 1-0 played for England during their defeat by Northern Ireland in September 2005. He believes this England side are the best he has played in and he is confident they will perform well at the World Cup finals.
