TOKYO (Ticker) - Another champion has been stripped of his belt for failing to make weight.

WBA flyweight champion Lorenzo Parra of Venezuela was stripped of his title Sunday after failing to make weight for his title bout against Japanese challenger Takefumi Sakata.

Last June, Jose Luis Castillo was overweight for his third fight with Diego Corrales and the lightweight championship fight was canceled. In October, Corrales was stripped of the belt for being overweight for a defense vs. Joel Casamayor, who won the vacant title the next day by taking a split decision.

Parra was six pounds over the 112-pound limit at the weigh-in. Sakata passed on his first attempt.

The match will continue as scheduled Monday night at Korakuen Hall. According to WBA regulations, Parra (27-0, 17 KOs), must relinquish the title and Sakata (29-4-1, 14 KOs) must win to become the new champion.

If Parra wins or draws, the WBA flyweight title will become vacant.

Parra tipped the scales at 118 pounds on the first weigh-in. After some exercise to sweat off the extra weight, Parra came in 90 minutes later at 116 3/4 pounds.

The Venezuelan will take a 35 percent cut in prize money. Both camps agreed the fighters should aim for a weight of 118 pounds on Monday.
