Impact Results – 8th Apr 2006

-Highlights from last week's show start us off.

-the iMPACT! opening airs.

-Tenay welcomes us to the show and mentions the matches that we have in store for us tonight.

Abyss w/ James Mitchell vs. AJ Styles
Tenay's mentions that this is a rematch from the main event of last year's Lockdown PPV. AJ is hesitant at first. He dodges some punches and gets in some kicks to the leg. Abyss eventually kicks him off. Styles gets kicked by Abyss and rolls to the outside. He then slingshots over the top rope to the back of Abyss, but Abyss pushes him off. Abyss turns around into a dropkick. Styles with a nice huracanrana. Abyss rolls outside to the apron. Styles gets in some punches as Abyss tries to step into the ring. AJ charges, but Abyss grabs him and sets him down in the ring. Abyss works over AJ with some offense. Abyss locks on a neck vise. Styles fights to his feet and breaks the hold. Styles runs right into a big press release slam from Abyss. Time for a commercial...

--COMMERCIAL BREAK--

Abyss nails a boot to the face of Styles when we come back. Mitchell wants Abyss to end it. Styles gets out of the Black Hole Slam and nails a kick to the head of Abyss. Styles springboards to nail a fist to the head. Styles goes for the Styles Clash, but Abyss reverses it into a torture rack slam for a near fall. Abyss comes off the top for a splash, but Styles dodges it. Styles nails his paylay kick to the head. Styles goes to the top rope, but Mitchell trips him with his cane to crotch him up top. Abyss grabs him and throws him across the ring from the top. Abyss goes to the outside and grabs his bag of thumbtacks from under the ring. We suddently cut backstage where Christian Cage speeds into the arena. He jumps out of his car with a tire iron in hand. Christian comes straight into the arena and nails Abyss with the tire iron. Mitchell and Abyss quickly leave ringside and retreat to the back. Christian runs after him, but the security holds him back. Christian beats up some of the security team and then grabs a mic and heads to the ring.

Winner: No Contest. (The match was very good up until the no contest finish with interference)

-Christian addresses Mitchell's request for an NWA Title shot for Abyss at Lockdown. Christian accepts the challenge. Christian says he has one question for Abyss. He asks if Abyss is ready to die inside the cage at Lockdown, because Christian says that he is. Excellent promo with great intensity from Christian.

-Jeremy Borash is backstage with Team 3D. Brother Ray and Brother Devon aren't looking happy. Ray says something about Borash not drinking enough beer. Team 3D talks about how they are going to bury Team Canada under American red, white and blue. Ray goes on to run down the country of Canada. Ray then recites the Pledge of Allegiance with a modified ending. Devon gets in his usual "testify" line.

--COMMERCIAL BREAK--

Arm Wrestling Match
Konnan w/ Homicide vs. Bob Armstrong w/ The James Gang
The ref sends Homicide and the James Gang to the back before the arm wrestling match. Konnan pulls away when they first lock arms. They lock up again, and Konnan pulls away again and trash talks. Konnan tries to pull away a third time, but Bob pulls him back. Konnan looks like he is about to win, but Bob comes back and about has Konnan beat when Hernandez comes out and takes out Bob from behind with a slapjack. Tenay mentions it's been years since Hernandez was in TNA. Hernandez and Konnan bail as the James Gang run out.

--COMMERCIAL BREAK--

-Jeremy Borash is backstage with Larry Zbyszko. Larry talks about Lockdown being right around the corner. He talks about the big match between Joe and Sabu. He then says speaking of big matches, they have the World X Cup coming up in May. He announces Christopher Daniels vs. Jushin Liger at Lockdown. He announces Daniels vs. Joe for the X Title on next week's debut on Thursday. Ref Slick Johnson comes in. He wants to ref the X Division match next week. Larry denies him and Slick says OK, we'll have to see what the new guy that TNA management is bringing in thinks about this. Larry is confused as to what he's talking about.

The Diamonds in the Rough (David Young & Elix Skipper) w/ Simon Diamond vs. Shark Boy & Norman Smiley
Before the match starts, Steiner's theme comes on and out comes Jarrett, AMW and Steiner. AMW and Steiner beat the hell out of Shark Boy and Norman Smiley. Jarrett gets on commentary and mentions that Steiner is gunna take out someone here just like when he took out Andy Douglas last week. Shark Boy is tossed to the outside and Steiner works over Smiley in the ring with AMW. He belly to belly suplexes Smiley, and Smiley goes through the ropes to the outside. He nails Smiley with a chair across the back by the announce position. Steiner puts on the Steiner Recliner on the outside as Smiley is passed out. Jarrett continues to build up on the commentary what a freak and big man Scott Steiner is.

--COMMERCIAL BREAK--

-A replay is shown of the carnage that Scott Steiner put Norman Smiley through minutes ago.

-Norman Smiley is shown getting medical help at ringside with Shark Boy at his side.

Winner Qualifies for the Final Spot on Team USA
Alex Shelley vs. Roderick Strong vs. Chase Stevens
Shelley slingshots over the top to the outside, and Stevens moves as Shelley falls to the floor. Strong and Stevens get in the ring. Strong gets in a shoulder block. Stevens comes back with a shoulder block of his own. Stevens works over Strong. Shelley slingshots into the ring but Stevens slams him to the mat. Stevens nails a clothesline to Strong for a near fall. Stevens goes after Shelley. Strong nails a knee to the back of Stevens and Shelley nails a stiff kick to Stevens. Shelley and Strong look to be working together for a bit in working over Stevens. Strong slams Stevens. Strong tosses Shelley on top of Stevens. They take turns splashing on top of Stevens while working together. Shelley rakes at the face of Stevens. Strong rakes Stevens across the top rope. They continue to work over Stevens, as Stevens tries to fight back once in a while. Stevens gets in a drop toe hold on Shelley into the turnbuckle. Stevens comes back on Strong. Strong accidently runs into Shelley on the apron. Stevens with a cross body into Strong. Shelley comes off the top, but Stevens nails a drop kick to him. Strong with a jawbreaker to Stevens. Strong nails a kick to the face of Stevens. Strong gets in some forearm shots in the corner. He nails a clothesline in the corner, then charges in again but Stevens lays him out with a side walk slam. Shelley comes in to break up the pin. Stevens with a neckbreaker on Shelley. Stevens goes up top, but Strong drop kicks him to crotch him. Strong with a superplex off the top on Stevens. Strong puts on the Boston Crab, but Shelley nails Strong with a kick to break it. Shelley nails his neckbreaker out of the corner on Strong and gets the pinfall. Very good TV match, worth catching the replay for.

Winner: Alex Shelley

--COMMERCIAL BREAK--

-Sting comes out for his promo. Sting says he doesn't want to beat a dead horse, but he asks the crowd if they know why he came back to wrestling? They yell yeah, and he says because he loves wrestling, the wrestling fans, TNA wrestling on Spike TV, and it was a bittersweet night at Final Resolution. Sweet because of what he just said, but bitter because Jarrett decided to put everything on film that is important to him in life. His family being plastered on national TV. He says he had to come back to get his hands on Jarrett's throat. He says he did it and it was very satisfying. He says he got one upped that night, though, because Jarrett brought in someone from his past, Scott Steiner. And Steiner threw him around. Sting says that just shook off a few more layers of rust on his body, though. He says it made him more ready to rock and roll once again. He says the sweet part of being one upped is that you have to come back and do the same thing. He says he asked TNA management for Six Sides of Steel on Spike TV and Six Sides of Steel at Lockdown with a roof on the top. He says Jarrett was dumb for admitting to the whole world who is on his team early. Sting says he won't announce his team until next week on the first Thursday edition of Impact. He challenges Jarrett for a match next week on Impact. Sting says for the time being, the ball is now in Jarrett's court and Jarrett has been one upped. He says anyone that Jarrett puts in his way, he will take out. Jarrett's theme comes on and he comes out with AMW and Scott Steiner. Rhino, Ron Killings, AJ Styles, The James Gang, Daniels, Chase Stevens, Sonjay Dutt, Chris Sabin and Jay Lethal (wheew) come out for the save. Jarrett and his team retreat before even entering the ring.

-A video package airs ending the show recapping the last few week's of Impact.
