Gillespie ... paceman stands firm.
JASON Gillespie completed his third Test half-century as Australia seemed set to post a massive first-innings lead on day three of the second Test against Bangladesh in Chittagong. In reply to Bangladesh's 197, the visiting team was 3-236 at lunch in Chittagong Divisional Stadium, with Gillespie (55no) and Mike Hussey (21no) at the crease.

Gillespie's innings as nightwatchman anchored the Australian response following a rain-ruined day two.

The South Australian paceman has enjoyed a brilliant series, averaging 75 with the bat and less than 10 with the ball.

After resuming at 2-151, Gillespie and Ricky Ponting moved beyond the Bangladesh first innings before the Australia captain took off for a short single after Gillespie had pushed a ball behind point off Mohammad Rafique's bowling.

The regular tailender sent Ponting back, but Abdur Razzak swept in from point and his direct hit found the captain well short of his crease.

Gillespie had a life on 44 when wicketkeeper Khaled Mashud dropped a chance off Rafique's bowling.Play started at 10am local time, half an hour later than scheduled as the outfield was given more time to dry after it was soaked yesterday.
