View Full Version : The Championship Situation

There are far too many championships in WWE right now. It must get downright confusing for casual/new fans. What makes it even worse is that the WWE, World and ECW World title are supposed to be of equal value (even though we all know they are not) and the names of the championships hardly differentiate one from the other.

This is how I would rectify this situation. I would unify the WWE, World and ECW World titles to form the "WWE World Heavyweight Championship". This would be the sole TOP championship in the company and would encompass all three brands. Basically, whoever is WWE World Heavyweight champion is champion of the entire WWE. Main event feuds will be kept fresh because challengers can be fed to the champion from all three brands.

I would elevate the Intercontinental championship to the number one belt on Raw. Maybe change the name to the 'WWE Raw Championship' to eliminate any stigma of the I-C belt being a 'second tier' title. This would be exclusive to Raw superstars only.

On the blue brand, I would elevate the U.S. Championship, rename it the 'WWE SmackDown Championship', much like the Raw Championship.

On ECW (which I would rename simply 'WWE Extreme'... if they are going to be treated as simply another brand, it shouldn't be named as though it is a different company) I would create the 'WWE Extreme Championship' which would also carry the stipulation that all title matches must be contested under Extreme Rules (kind of like the old Hardcore title, only it would be treated as much more prestigious).

The two tag team titles would be unified and the 'WWE World Tag Team Championship' will be exclusive to Raw. The Cruiserweight title will be exclusive to Extreme. The Women's title will be exclusive to SmackDown

Unifying the top belts sounds good. Renaming the second tier belts to crappy names like that doesn't.

the unifying sounds alrite, da RAW & Smackdown champion thing sounds good but the Divas only to smackdown and cruisers to ECW that sounds wyerd.
i think the Diva championship shuld b for all brands like the world heavyweight

and the cruiserweights exculsive to smackdown

Either eliminate the brand extensions and unify the shows all under the normal and old WWE banner or specialise the brands.

RAW is the heavywieght and diva championship brand.

Smackdown! is the cruiserwieght and tag team brand.

ECW is the hardcore brand and IC title brand.

Having three "championship" belts is ridiculous. Two was alright but still diluted the importance of THE belt since there was no longer THE belt. I never cared for the brand extension as it led to only one show a week to see most wrestlers, whereas they all appeared on both shows and really built up great rivalries between each other. A week between televised events kills the momentum.

Unifying the belts will mean : Bobby Lashley versus John Cena. Easily the match of the decade!!! Seriously nowadays champions aren't what they used to be anyways and WWE's belts have as little meaning as nothing.

Renaming ECW under WWE Extreme is an excellent idea. I hate hearing ECW being referred to as a "brand". As for the World Heavyweight Championship and ECW Championship, I don't really consider either belt as a major prize. Yes both have their histories but for the most part the titles aren't prestigous. Joining the WWE and World Heavyweight Championship or getting rid of the World Heavyweight Championship is something that should be done before the end of 2007.

Rather keep the WH Championship and ditch that spinner belt. Seriously, that is an insult to anyone who has held the WWE championsihp.

I think they need to combine the shows except ecw and give them a bigger roster, for the wwe side they need the us title, wwe title and heavyweight title, for ecw have the tv title and hardcore title.

o yea also for the wwe side have the world tag titles

No way. They can just remove the spinner. The WWE championship has a lot of history behind it. The WH belt is nothing compared to it.

Not a good idea. For example if theirs a challenger from Raw, and A challenger from ECW and the Champion is from Smackdown, does that mean the champion has to make 4 appearences in a PPV week? Nice travelling scheduelle, ey.

They already wrestle at live events anyway, just shift them to the televised events instead of the house shows. The schedule would have the shows in the same geographic area in a week so travel is roughly the same as it is now.
