Baghdad - Iraq's parliament on Saturday reelected Kurdish leader Jalal Talabani as the country's president.
Lawmakers also elected Shiite Adel Abdel Mahdi and Sunni Tareq al-Hashemi as the two vice presidents, rounding off the three-member presidential council.
The trio recieved 198 votes, passing the two thirds requirement to be voted into the 275-seat parliament, according to results announced by the assembly's new speaker Mahmud Mashhadani.
Following the vote Talabani immediately announced that he wanted Shiite Dawa party member Jawad al-Malaki to head the next government as prime minister.
