AUSTRALIA fullback Anthony Minichiello is in danger of missing next week's Anzac Test against New Zealand because of a hamstring strain.
Minichiello was today ruled out of Sydney Roosters' NRL clash against North Queensland on Saturday after failing to recover from the injury suffered during training last week.
The fullback was a late withdrawal from Tuesday's Anzac Day defeat to St George-Illawarra, and with the injury responding only slowly to treatment, the Roosters have again decided not to risk him for the game in Townsville.
The club says Minichiello is undergoing intense physiotherapy in an effort to be available for selection in the Kangaroos team, which will be named on Sunday and like the Roosters is coached by Ricky Stuart.
England-based referee Ashley Klein, a former Parramatta junior who was part of the New South Wales Rugby League referees development squad until 2001, has been appointed to control the Test at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium next Friday.
Klein, who moved to Britain five years ago with his England-born wife, was voted the Super League referee of the year in 2005 and also officiated the competition's grand final as well as last year's Test between Australia and France. He was selected after discussions between the senior refereeing administrators of the Australian Rugby League, New Zealand Rugby League and English Rugby Football League.
