Woman gets ratty with bureaucrat

An angry Polish housewife slapped a rat on the desk of a town hall official who refused to accept that she had a pest problem.

Zdzislawa Szczerbinska, 50, got fed up with being told by council staff that she was imagining the problem at her home in Lodz, Poland.

"I was so cross I caught one myself in a trap and slammed it right down on the desk," she told local media.

But even then the official didn't believe her, asking coolly: "Why is it dead? How do I know you didn't find this in the street?"

Now Mrs Szczerbinska - whose rodent protest was filmed by a local TV station - says she plans to sue pest control officials.
