In "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," Caesar conquered humans, and in "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," he conquers horses, too.

Andy Serkis -- who plays the founding father of Earth's new dominant species -- rides horseback (as the apes did in the 1968 original) while wearing a motion-capture suit in an on-set picture director Matt Reeves ("Cloverfield") tweeted on Friday.

The "Apes" sequel picks up during the aftermath of the plague that began wiping out humanity in the 2011 reboot. While Caesar leads a growing nation of intelligent primates, a group of scientists in San Francisco struggle to resist extinction.

Jason Clarke ("Zero Dark Thirty"), who plays one of the remaining humans in the 20th Century Fox film, appears to be trekking through the forest with other survivors when he meets a being who may very well be his master by the time the credits roll.

Gary Oldman, Keri Russell and Judy Greer also star in the sci-fi flick hitting theaters on May 23, 2014.
