Prison authorities say Francis Karuri, who is on death row in Kenya, chopped it off because he missed out on receiving a Presidental pardon that would have brought him his freedom.

Karuri was sent to Kenyatta Nation Hospital 13 hours after the incident where doctors were unable to reattach the organ.

He had been following proceedings of the Uhuru ceremony where 50 prisoners were sent free by the country’s president.

President Uhuru Kenyatta did not include Karuri on his list and the prisoner took the news very badly.

After castrating himself, Karuri continued to mp the floor of his cell before passing out due to a loss of blood, say sources.

The inmate had apparently told others behind bars that if he was not going to be released he would not need his private parts.

Friends of Karuri believed he was excited about going free and seeing his family after being in jail for 15 years.

In the state tradition, presidents would pardon criminals during national days.

It is likely that Karuri’s sentence may last out to life in prison with human rights organisers protesting against capital punishment in Kenya.
