Drunk man swallows fork on a bet, winds up in ER

Radu Kalincesku, 25, was admitted to a hospital in Bacau, Romania, complaining of throat pain. Apparently, he failed to mention that he knew exactly why his esophagus was hurting — he ate a fork — maybe he was embarrassed, or maybe he was beginning to sober up.

When doctors performed an x-ray of the painful area that Kalincesku described, and notified him that he had a fork lodged in his esophagus, the truth came out: He had swallowed the fork on a bet that he could do it without suffering any ill physical consequences.

Doctors, either annoyed at the situation, or concluding that her should fully experience the ill physical consequences of his bet, decided not to operate, but to send the man home, fork intact, and wait to see if it didn’t pass through his system naturally, which isn’t out of the question since he seems to have swallowed it with the tines facing down.

Kalincesku was advised to return if the fork doesn’t make it to his stomach, or if it becomes lodged in his intestine.
