British man convicted after attempted intercourse with mailbox

Paul Bennett (45), pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent exposure following an incident on September 9th where witnesses reported Bennett ‘pulled down his pants’ in public and ‘performed a sex act on himself’.
The Mirror reports that prosecuting attorney Kate Beattie alleged that Bennett “started to make sexual advances” towards a mailbox in the Scholes Precinct, Wigan, Greater Manchester, ‘rubbing himself against it’ while holding his hands above his head.
Witness reported Bennett repeatedly shouting ‘Wow’.
The Express reported that police found Bennett exposing himself again when he ‘drunkenly swore and shouted’ at them.
Bennett’s attorney told the court that his client “accepts” that his behaviour left a witness who “watched for some time… ashamed, disgusted and upset”, adding “Clearly there are issues that need to be addressed.”
Bennett was handed down twelve months’ supervised community service and ordered to pay £50 to a woman who witnessed the incident, undergo alcohol treatment and register as a sex offender.
