NJPW Champion Kazuchika Okada Was Backstage At SummerSlam

Current IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada was backstage at SummerSlam in Brooklyn, NY on Sunday. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has wanted to sign Okada for some time.

Okada is currently under contract to New Japan Pro Wrestling, and is in New York for this weekend’s Ring Of Honor show. Okada signed a one-year contract extension with NJPW in December of 2015. After losing AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura to WWE, NJPW is reportedly looking to offer Okada a new five-year ¥200 million contract.

Okada made his debut back in 2004 after being trained by Ultimo Dragon. He appeared on TNA television back in 2011 under the name Okato, where he worked with Samoa Joe.
