Rocky Romero Says NJPW’s Door is Open if Wrestlers Are Unhappy and “Fed Up” With WWE

NJPW made a big move when they signed Mercedes Mone to a contract after she negotiated her WWE release at the start of this year.

Since then, she has worked a few matches for NJPW and STARDOM, with her next booking taking place later this month. She helped elevate the women’s division and was the IWGP Women’s Champion until she dropped it last month.

With Vince McMahon returning as the Executive Chairman of the WWE Board earlier this year and then being more involved in creative for the company after agreeing to be acquired by The Endeavor Group, there has been some concern regarding him getting even more involved in creative.

While speaking on Comedy Store Wrestling, Rocky Romero talked about how the door is open for any other unhappy talent in WWE. He started off by noting that NJPW is in a weird spot right now as they’re trying to recover from the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic had on them because touring in front of fans was gone.

He noted they’re just starting to get back on their feet. He called the Mone signing a big investment and testing the waters regarding signing a big star for business in Japan and the United States.

"Now, we're starting to feel comfortable again. Long story is, basically, if because Vince is back and there are people who are unhappy in WWE, there very well could be a possibility of somebody coming over, being fed up with it and just walking away. New Japan's door will be open if that happens, for sure," Romero said.

Romero has been used as the liaison in helping partnerships between NJPW and other promotions such as with AEW, Impact Wrestling, and even WWE when the Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows) returned to WWE while Anderson was the NEVER Openweight Champion.
