NJPW G1 Climax 33 results from Hiroshima, Japan - Aug 2, 2023 (Block C & D)
1 - Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Alex Coughlin
Coughlin pins Tanahashi with a Jackhammer.
Big win for Coughlin! Not only beating a legend, but he keeps Tanahashi at 6 points and eliminates him from contention in the D Block.
2 - Mikey Nicholls vs. EVIL
Nicholls avoided the shenanigans from EVIL and Dick Togo. Nicholls pins EVIL with a roll up cradle and a bridge.
Nicholls blocks EVIL from getting to double digit points. EVIL is still alive for either 1st or 2nd place in the C Block, and will face Shingo Takagi in his final Block match.
3 - Toru Yano vs. Shane Haste
Comedy match. Yano tapes a bucket to Haste's head. Haste actually wrestled with in on his head for a few minutes. Yano hits a low blow and chop block.
Yano pins Haste.
4 - Tomohiro Ishii vs. HENARE
Stiff fun match. HENARE hits the Streets of Rage and pins Ishii.
HENARE gets his first singles win over Ishii ever. However, both men are eliminated from the semifinals.
5 - Hirooki Goto vs. Jeff Cobb
Goto pulls out a nice Code Red and hits a GTR. Goto pins Cobb.
Cobb remains at 8 points with 2 losses in a row. Goto gets to 6 points with this win.
6 - Tama Tonga vs. Eddie Kingston
Kingston hits a spinning backfist and a Northern Lights Bomb.
Kingston pins Tama.
Tama remains at 7 points. Eddie Kingston moves into a tie with David Finlay and EVIL. The Mad King is doing well in his first G1.
7 - Tetsuya Naito vs. Zack Sabre Jr.
Really good match. Both wrestlers know each other well. The traded finishers and near falls. Naito goes for Tornado DDT but rolls it into an inside cradle pin.
Naito pins ZSJ with less than 2 minutes left in the match.
This win creates a three way tie for the lead in the D Block with Tetsuya Naito, Zack Sabre Jr and Jeff Cobb. It will create a dramatic finish in the D Block.
8 - Shingo Takagi vs. David Finlay
Another good match. Takagi and Finlay beat the hell out of each other.
Takagi pins Finlay with Last of the Dragon.
In the C Block, there is three at 8 points and two at 7 points. This will all come to a dramatic finish on the final night of the C Block.
