Earlier this year, Afa battled pneumonia, which was further complicated by a mild heart attack during his hospitalization. His health worsened when he experienced a second small heart attack during his stay. Despite these obstacles, Afa was discharged in January.

Afa's recovery was interrupted when he suffered a fall, resulting in fractures to his back in two places, as disclosed in a Facebook post by Afa Jr. The severity of the injury required his transfer to another hospital for specialized treatment, heightening worries about his health.
