Adam Copeland Shares Complication with Tibia Surgery, How He's Spending His Time Off

All Elite Wrestling's Adam Copeland is recovering from surgery after suffering a fractured tibia, but the operation was not without complications.

Copeland suffered the injury in question at AEW Double or Nothing 2024 where he defended the AEW TNT Championship against Malakai Black. Many suspect that the injury happened when Copeland dove off the top of the barbed wire steel cage onto the Dutch wrestler. While Copeland retained the title, the TNT gold has since been vacated due to his injury.

Appearing on the Busted Open Radio podcast, Copeland addressed his surgery. The Rated-R Superstar was pleased to share it was a success but did face a slight complication.

"I had the surgery on Monday, and it was a success. I guess it got a little complicated just because of where the break is. It’s kind of right above the ankle joint, which is called a peon fracture, apparently.

"So the cartilage between your ankle and your Tibia and Fibula got squished, and then the break. I guess there were shards of it too, so they had to try and compact it all with the plate and the screws."

With this injury, it'll be some time before fans next see Copeland in the ring. Fortunately for the two-time AEW TNT Champion, he has plenty to keep him occupied.

"DoorDash is pretty cool. I started using DoorDash, I didn’t know how to use it. I had to get Beth to show me how. I’ve been doing a lot of reading, a lot of Dr. Mario.”

Copeland is trying to take his injury in his stride, even saying it has enhanced his 'grizzled veteran' mystique in AEW. With Copeland on the road to recovery, only time will tell when he’ll be able to make his return to programming. In the meantime, a new TNT Champion will be crowned at AEWxNJPW: Forbidden Door later this month.
